Self-confidence is a compound word that can be broken into two words. Self and Confidence. Self can be defined as an individual person as the object of his own reflective consciousness while confidence means expression or feeling of certainty.
In Chemistry, I was thought that if two elements combine together, they react to form a product. In the same way, confidence is a product of reaction. The elements of confidence could be past achievements, talents, skills, intellect etc. All these could be sources of confidence but there is one source of confidence that does not change when faced with storms and life difficulties. He is the unchangeable changer. His name is ALMIGHTY GOD and He should be our ultimate source of confidence. You should only be self-confident when your self is consumed with the Word of God.
Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart;
For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts. Jerimiah 15:16

“The Bible finds us where we are, and with our permission it will take us where we ought to go.
Other books were given to us for information but God’s word was given to us for transformation” said John Mason.
If you are going to thrive where self-confidence is concerned in these last days, there are two things that must be taken seriously. The first thing is the way you see yourself and the second is what you say about yourself.
How do you see yourself?
The book of Numbers chapter 13 gave the account of how Moses was instructed to send men to the land of Canaan in order to spy the land they were about to inhabit (a promised land).
After the spy had completed their assignment for forty days, something happened that led them to a serious problem. All of them went to the same place, at the same time and on the same assignment but brought different reports. Indeed two people can look at the same thing and see different things because the true eyes of a man are not in his head but in his heart. While some saw themselves as grasshoppers in front of their enemies, others saw themselves as conquerors. You are like a reflector, what you think you reflect. And it is what you reflect that the enemy sees. The only way you can actually reflect who God created you to be is to catch the revelation of who and whose you are from the word of God. Bishop David Oyedepo once said, “It is your picture that you catch from the scripture that determines your future”. Brother, you are too complex to know yourself. Your brain cannot calculate who you are (Read Psalm 139). It is the one who designed you that can define you.
One of the best-known “overcomers” in American history would have been Helen Keller, who refused to allow the blindness of her eyes and the deafness of her ears to keep her from enjoying her life, achieving remarkable goals, and making significant contributions to the society. Before the end of her life in 1968, Helen received numerous honorary degrees and awards for her humanitarian work and the inspiration she provided for the blind and the deaf, including prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom. In her book, she quotes famous authors as she had a very retentive memory and used some of the poems by famous poets whenever she found their application. Her autobiography also has many quotations from the Bible. In spite of her triple handicap, she proved that
“The virtue in life is real courage that knows how to face facts and live beyond them”.
The block of granite which was an obstacle in the path way of the weak becomes a stepping-stone in the pathway of the strong said Thomas Carlyle. How do you see yourself, remember, God sees you victorious. He sees you shinning. He sees you unstoppable. God has invested so much in you than to let you give up. Believe in your potentials and not too long you are on your way to fulfil your destiny. Life challenges are like onions; the more you go through, the more inner treasures they unveil (Read Gen 45:1-7).
Just like the contact Joseph needed was awaiting him in the prison, so also your struggles and challenges will pave way to your enthronement. Remember, you cannot gain experience by reading pages of book, you have to go through. The fact that you are going through does not mean that you are not going to breakthrough. Prepare, for men will ask you, how did you breakthrough? Your mess can be your message and your pain can be your pulpit. Life challenges are good, they bow our stiffened neck and bend our rigid kneels. Come on, believe, God is not over with you yet!
We know that in all things God work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28(KJV)
Let each new obstacle force you to go to the next level with God. No obstacle will ever leave you the way it found you. You will either be better or be worse. Someone said that obstacle is what we see when we take our eyes off the goal.
What do you say about yourself?
There will always be times when people will say all sort of things about you but it is what the word of God says that you should hold on to. It is not about what the world says but what the Word says. Come on, lift up your head and say good things about yourself. Say it loud and clear.
Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit–you choose. Proverb 18:21(MSG)
There once was a wise sage who wandered the countryside. One day, as he passed near a village, he was approached by a woman who told him of a sick child nearby. She beseeched him to help this child. So the sage came to the village, and a crowd gathered around him, for such a man was a rare sight. One woman brought the sick child to him, and he said a prayer over her. “Do you really think your prayer will help, when medicine has failed?” yelled a man from the crowd. “You know nothing of such things! You are a stupid fool!” said the sage to the man. The man became very angry with these words and his face grew hot and red. He was about to say something, or perhaps strike out, when the sage walked over to him and said: “If one word has such power as to make you so angry and hot, may not another have the power to heal?” And thus, the sage healed two people that day.
So, from this moment, begin to say good things about yourself. Remember, if you don’t, nobody may! I will like to leave this with you…
It is the one who designed you that can define you (not your circumstances) and your stature does not determine your future. It is your picture that you catch from the scripture that determines your future. Brace up! It is not who but whose you are. Take a deep breathe, remove your bible from your shelf and rekindle the dying flame!
